First pregnancy can bring in changes in many forms physical, psychological, hormonal, as well as emotional. The changes can bring in both excitement and nervousness at the same time. Excitement because the mother is wondering about what would her new baby look like, the first smile, crying, names, about her husbands expression when he first comes to know about the pregnancy, etc. On the other hand, worries would crop up concerning the babys health, future, nutrition, and welfare. The worries and nervousness about the coming child can add a lot of stress for the mother to be. The stress and discomfort is also because of other physical and emotional changes going on within the body.

Pregnancy massage has been found to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints. Its a popular complimentary therapy during pregnancy for back pain when choices for pain relief from medication are often limited. Massage therapists help maintain proper posture, which helps alleviate pain from the neck, back and shoulders. It stimulates blood circulation and relaxes the underlying tissues. Moreover, during childbirth there is extensive muscle strain. A soothing massage can prepare the muscles for childbirth.

Not only can massage be physically beneficial but the human touch can be comforting and provide emotional support during pregnancy. Massage therapy has also been found to reduce anxiety and depression. In addition, relaxation through massage stimulates sleep, which notably lowers the levels of insomnia.

How is it different from a regular massage?

The mother to bes body must be properly positioned and supported during the massage using pillows and padding. Proper positioning ensures comfort and safety for the mother and baby. Also, some massage techniques cannot be used. Certain areas of the body are avoided during the pregnancy.

Many massage therapists do not recommend massage in the first trimester. Also, women with certain health conditions may not be able to have pregnancy massage. Its best to consult your doctor and take help from a certified massage therapist. Look for massage therapists who are certified in pregnancy massage. That means that the therapist has specialized training in pregnancy massage and knows whats safe for the mother and baby.

Massage is becoming increasingly popular with mother to bes these days. It can help the mother to be to cope up with changes and feel relaxed. If you have any questions or suggestions, please post them in the comments section below.

Especially with a pregnant woman, it is best to avoid scented lotions and any with added chemicals. I use an all natural organic lotion. My favorite organic lotion is just called Organic bath and body massage lotion. Deep tissue should also be avoided due to the additional stress it puts on the woman's body. Also, be sensitive to the fact that the woman might be insecure about the changes to her body.

If it is cream for pregnancy massage you are looking for then I would recommend Palmer's Massage cream. It claims to reduce stretch marks and provides a good glide for massage at the same time. It's made from collagen, elastin and vitamin Ethree so it should have good beneficial and lasting effects on the skin afterwards.

Pregnancy massage helps the muscles relax between contractions, reduces pain and anxiety, increases self-assurance and also demonstrates loving encouragement and support.

After the birth, the focus falls on the newborn. Unfortunately, in all the excitement, the new mother's needs are often forgotten. However, this is a time when she could probably use a deep tissue massage the most. The abdominal massage can help greatly with her recovery process. For a number of weeks immediately after a vaginal birth, regular abdominal massage will help the uterus contract and shrink back to a normal size. It will relieve muscle aches and pains as well as help you deal with her fatigue.
Mild depression is common after birth. About 60% of new mothers experience what is referred to as "postpartum blues". A full body massage can have a positive impact on your emotional state and is a great way to lift your spirits.

Hi,

During the pregnancy the massage therapist recommends that the massage should be done with extra care and should include some extra therapies that would help the lady during the pregnancy.

Can any one recommend some oil/massage cream which are best during the pregnancy?

Thanks
