Thank goodness for a genuine massage therapy forum. I was starting to despair. The other discussion lists are full of flame, vindictiveness, and porn. As a massage therapist working alone, it can be quite disheartening sorting through all that junk - when all I want is serious discussion on the business of massage.

A breath of fresh air is what I think, at least we can have a open forum without being bombarded with idiots, thank you.

Don: have you checked into PaBTA they are working on licensing in Pennsylvania. you can check their web site also terry at PIMT is deeply involved she can probably put you in touch with people in your area.

Elizabeth, the reason that you are running into such muck, is due to the hapazard way in which many states certify therapists. Here in PA there is no licensing, therefore prostitution is fairly common. Just recently read about a whole spa being shut down due to same in the Harrisburg area. Real shame, especially when a Certified Massage Therapist runs into such crap. One reason that I am backing legislation here to license all therapists and not grandfather people in, unless they have all the necessary education, i.e. at least 500 plus hours of COMTA education. Time for the good therapists to take hold of our profession and clean it up. We never will be accepted completely into the Health Care Profession unless we do so. Always present the Code of Ethics to your clientele by which your association condones. Look up AMTA or ABMP for their codes. If and when you are ever confronted with a proposition for sexual massages, immediately stop the session, charge the client and send them on their way. You do not need people like that as patients. To be honest I am not really impressed with the fact that this website condones talk of such nature in the forums. If it continues, then I will only have to remove my listing from MassageOnline. Only tends to degrade our profession even further. I or my wife are not sexual objects, but Health Care Givers. Keep that in mind all the time. Please note that my wife and I are both CMT's and we love the business. Give couples massages with never any sexual concept involved. Take a look at our website.
