Clients come in all shapes and sizes and massage therapists understand that. I have come across many people who deprive themselves from the benefits of a massage just because they have a flab, theyre hairy or they have a bent toe nail. Usually, they fail to think that a registered massage therapist is trained and knows the remedy for their self-consciousness. A registered massage therapist has learnt the professional ways of dealing with such issues. Moreover, if the massage therapist is experienced, your problem will not be unique to him.

If you are taking massage for the first time, ask questions and express your fears. It will give you confidence as you know that the massage therapist is aware of your fears. It will help the massage therapist as he will be in a better position to understand you and know what to do. You have the freedom to tell massage therapists to avoid areas you dont want to be massaged. Registered massage therapists follow a code of ethics, which can force them to leave the practice if they do not abide by the rules.

Swedish massage and Deep tissue massage are the most popular and marketed massage techniques. However, there is other massage technique in which the clients stays fully covered such as shiatsu or Thai massage. In these types of massage techniques, neither oil, nor lotion is used. Some massage therapists even allow you to wear your own comfortable clothes.

It is good to know that massage therapists are flexible enough to accommodate your needs. However, they need to have your medical history and other information in advance. This helps them take precaution and avoid sensitive areas
